Wells Diving Group August Bank Holiday Land's End 2008

August Bank Holiday 2008 – Trip Report

Friday 22nd August

Boat and 6 divers all arrived on schedule at the campsite at 2.30pm.  Campsite very friendly and accommodating.  After talking with the owner who is also a diver we changed our first dive plans from Low Lee Ledges to the wreck Alice Marie. This wreck was closer and in his opinion a better dive,

Launch off Marazion beach, no problems. Calm sea and little wind.  Wreck found. A small wreck but lots of life.  All had a good dive and boat safely recovered.

Saturday 23rd August.

After being kept awake during the night by a cow giving birth – thanks Ian!!! We set off to dive again.

Now 8 divers. Launched off Marazion beach again, calm sea and slight winds.  Found and shot the wreck Hellopes.  Another good dive but a bit dark. 2 pairs planned (and dived) this as a decompression dive; both pairs were either on twin sets or ponies. All divers safely recovered but  even though the last pair in freed the shot it became firmly stuck and was left in place.

After lunch (good pasty shop nearby) went off and dive the wreck Conqueror.  Again a small wreck but relatively intact (6 divers). Boat return via the Hellopes where myself and my buddy retrieved the shot and had a short dive (no stop).  Was upset not to have dived the Conqueror but we needed our shot back!!

Sunday 24th August.

Down to 6 divers, change of launch site to Sennen and off out to the Longships reef. Large swell running so only allowed one pair in at a time and set time limit on dive so we would know when to expect a delayed and to ensure enough slack for all divers.  All had a good dive with no problems.

Due to equipment failure (wrist seal) and faulty regs we lost two divers and were reduced to 4.  It was decided that due to the nature of the launch sites it would be hard work for just 4 so the diving was curtailed.  Also the sun was shinning and tents were dry so an early finish was decided.

A good weekend was had by all, but the underwater vis was disappointing.  I was happy with all the arrangements and would not make any changes to my original plans.  Club boat and truck performed well and weekend made a small (£30) profit for the club.

Thanks to all those who attended and the help and support I received from them – Mark, Ian, Estelle, James, Marcus, Colin and our guest Lee.

Wells Diving Group Holiday 2007

During the month of October, a group of 18 club members from WDG had a very enjoyable week's holiday in Gozo. Several members took photographs and the links are below.
